The purpose of refreshing your desktop is to redraw or reorder your icons if a change has been made. Refreshing the desktop does NOT dump or free ram and it does NOT speed up the performance of your computer at all. Example: If I delete a program, lets say an antivirus or such, and it deletes all of the files and folders that go with it, but it doesn't ( for some odd reason ) delete the icon on the desktop, if you right click and hit "refresh" it will remove the icon from your desktop.

The other terms for refresh include: reinvigorate, revitalize, revive, restore, fortify and enliven.
For a several reason,1. The monitor doesn't support the desktop resolution that Windows provide.2. The monitor doesn't support the refresh rate that Windows provide.3. The graphic card settings appear to be unsupported by your monitor.4. The monitor maybe unrecognized by Windows, and needs drivers installed.Try booting Windows on the safe mode, tweak monitor settings on control panel, or desktop properties, try the lowest resolution (800x600), and refresh rate (60 Hertz).
no it does not, but it does have the auto-refresh feature so you dont have to refresh if you get a new email, it just pops up

Hopefully you have a Windows computer. If you do, great! If you don't, I'll give the steps below these:For Windows:Go to the plain desktop view.Right click the desktop background and where it says Graphics Properties, click that.Open up graphics properties. If it asks for advanced or basic mode, choose advanced.Click on the Display tab and then the General subcategory.Refresh rate should be 4th on the list.Choose your custom refresh rate and then hit apply.Enjoy your new refresh rate. Keep in mind that most computers have the highest refresh rates selected and if you desire to improve that rate, you may need to buy new graphics cards for you computer. For Mac:Click on the Apple logo at the top left-hand corner of your MacBook screen.Click "System Preferences."Click on the icon marked "Displays."Click on the box next to the option labeled "Refresh Rate."Click on one of the available refresh rates in the drop-down list that appears. Close the System Preferences window when you finish.Hope this helps.-Peter
If there is no space on the desktop for icons, the icons will run off the screen. Thus the icons will not be displayed. If you use up the space, you could delete icons you don't use, resize the icons, increase the screen resolution, or create a folder on the desktop to move your less commonly used icons to.
