Unfortunately it seems your ex was not over his ex at the time he began dating you and you were just a rebound at the time for him. He obviously still wants to be with his ex and there is nothing at this point you can do. It is best you move forward. I realize you may be hurt and getting over someone takes time but you will find things will be better in time. He went back to her which indicates that is where he wanted to be all along which there is no way you would be able to come between them nor should you try.
