15 a ig coil meter
They told me that i needed to replace the ignition coil on my 2004 Suzuki Verona, my question is how do i know which to change because i just found out the are 6 of them. Do i have to replace them all?
There are four steps on how to check a coil in a 185 Suzuki 4 wheeler. One way to check the coil in a 185 Suzuki 4 wheeler is by purchasing a OHM meter.
Take off the plastic engine cover , take out the bolt that hold the coil , take out the coil.
hook up a voltage meter to the coil put the meter on VDC measure the power going into the coil and going out. call a shop for the specs on the coil if its bad the whole assembly will need to be replaced.
On my Sidekick Sport (1.8 litre) they are on top of the engine under the coils. There is a plastic cover with 4 bolts you remove, you then remove the bolt from each ignition coil and lift out the coil. You'll need a fairly long socket extension to reach the plugs which are under the coils/boots.
First, see if the each coil is getting the required voltage from the ignition switch (probably 12V). If they are, you can check the resistance of the coil with a simple volt meter. Should read minimal resistance. If the meter reads OL then the coil windings are open (defective/bad).
If it has no spark, then could be ignition coil or ignition control module. If spark, then fuel related. Would need to check fuel pressure. If the fuel pump is in the tank then should hear it hum for a few seconds when turning key to on.
get a volt meter. turn it on. put one end on the +. the other end on the -. if you get a number greater than 12 with the car running then your golden.
You test an ignition coil by checking the resistance with an ohm meter. The resistance values should be something like, Primary winding .3 to 1 ohms, Secondary winding 8,000 to 11,500 ohms.
The ignition coil is inside the ignition distributor.
No. The coil provides the spark and the module tells the coil when to spark.
what are you trying to measure and with what type of meter? generally we check the module with a spark tester. if there is no spark with the spark tester we check the kill wires and any safety switches that may cause a no spark issue and if all that still shows no spark then we replace the module.
