Generally what is needed is some form of government issued I.D. in your case your passport should work just fine, along with some secondary I.D. This will be a judgment call on the part of the studio providing the service to you. So the best bet is to phone the local shops and ask what they will accept.

If you are not a US citizen, I'd advise taking your passport.
A passport is not required for a drivers' permit exam.
If you are in U.S.A you can only get a learners permit at age 15 and then the reg license at 16...no exceptions (except South Dakota, and other states which allow you to get a learner's permit at age 14)

A permit is just like a license except you have to have a 21 year old in the passenger seat. This means you can drive anywhere in the U.S. you want.

You can get you learners permit at 15 and your drivers license 1 year after you get you permit.
You have to be 16 to get a Drivers License in the state of Florida. You can get your Learners Permit at age 15. But, if you turn 18 and are without a Learners Permit (or license), you can skip the permit and get the license after the basic driving tests.
You have to have your green card & passport.
In California I believe you can still get your driver's license after your permit expired, however you cannot drive without the permit until after you get your driver's license.
