I believe this is how it goes: At first back in the day, you had to be 100% Italian and more specifically Sicilian. These days, it's getting pretty rare to find truly 100% pure blood Italians since many people marry those of other backgrounds. Because of this, the Mafia has lowered their requirements to being 50% Italian but it must be on your father's side so you have the Italian surname. They also have to be able to trace your roots back to Sicily via your ancestors. You will not be able to be a made man however...that very strictly requires that you be 100% Italian. But to be an entry level kind of guy, if you are half Italian via your father's side then yes you should be able to join.
When writing a story about the Italian Mafia, consider researching the history and culture of the organization. Develop complex characters with conflicting motivations and relationships within the Mafia structure. Include elements of power struggles, loyalty, betrayal, and illustrate the consequences of being involved in organized crime. Ultimately, focus on creating a compelling narrative that engages readers while respecting the gravity of the subject matter.
Sicily is the estereotype for the Italian mafia since a notorious family was originated in Sicily. ^ wrong The area in which ALL Italian Mafia are based is the Italina island of Sicily, the capital of Palermo being the hub of its activities. different areas of Italy have different criminal organisations, but none are as successful or notorious as the Mafia. However, I assume you are talking about the American Mafia. In its origins, all members of the American Mafia were from Sicily or descendants of Sicilians. However over the years, as the descendants of Sicians have bred with the descendants of mainland Italians, and as a result the American Mafia's members are made up of a mixture of Sicilians and mainland Italians. Although they are unconfirmed, there is even reports nowadays that the American Mafia is inducting people whom are only half Italians
