Texas did NOT support the 1824 Mexican constitution. That is why they declared their independence on March 2, 1836.
Texas was formally and unanimously declared independent from Mexico on March 2, 1836. This declaration was made at Washington in the general convention by the Delegates of the People of Texas. The capture of Santa Anna on March 6, 1836, in the Battle of the Alamo, sealed the Independence of Texas, though the declaration was made a few days before.
The leader of Mexico who fought against the Texans during the Texas Revolution was General Antonio López de Santa Anna. He was the president of Mexico and commanded the Mexican army during the conflict, notably at the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. Santa Anna's forces ultimately lost to the Texan rebels at the Battle of San Jacinto, leading to Texas' independence.
It can be called the War for Texas Independence or the Texas Revolutionary War, but it is not to be called the Mexican American War or the Mexican War which happened a decade after the Texans won their Independence at San Jacinto.
