Here's an idea of how the changeover went...In 1907, only 8 percent of American homes had electricity, but by 1925, more than half of them did. 90 percent of urban families had electricity by 1930...but there was still some resentment of the "new" utilities reflected in vaudeville even then, and vaudeville was still alive.
Benjamin Franklin.
Thomas Edison invented the first successful electric light bulb. He and his staff at his workshop in Menlo Park New Jersey.
New York Edison's light bulb was one of the first applications of electricity to modern life. 1882: Thomas Edison (U.S.) opened the Pearl Street Power Station in New York City. The Pearl Street Station was one of the world's first central electric power plants and could power 5,000 lights.
The first person to look into electricity in some detail was William Gilbert, an English physician, and he gave it the term 'electricus' (which became 'electric' and 'electricity' over time). Bear in mind that he DISCOVERED electricity, no Invented. It was not created by man, as it already existed before we did.
God. But man learned to harness it. Benjamin Franklin learned about it too. Edison workes with it. Lots of people combiined. But God invented (created) it. No one 'invented' it, it was discovered - by Ben Franklin (as is generally accepted).
At first, Thomas Edison
He created the first company for distributing electricity.
Benjamin Franklin.
First of all Thomas Edison did not discover electricity. He discovered the light bulb! Benjamin Franklin discovered electricity you dumb head, and that was in 1752. >:(
Lightbulb
Thomas Edison invented electricity. I believe his first electrical invention was the light bulb. Hope this helps.....
There was no founder of electricity. Lightning is the first electricity, Thomas Edison just put it in a light bulb.
Thomas Edison patented an electric distribution system in 1880, which was essential to capitalize on the invention of the electric lamp. On December 17, 1880, Edison founded the Edison Electric Illuminating Company. The company established the first investor-owned electric utility in 1882 on Pearl Street Station, New York City. It was on September 4, 1882, that Edison switched on his Pearl Street generating station's electrical power distribution system, which provided 110 volts direct current (DC) to 59 customers in lower Manhattan. Thomas Edison studied electricity, in short, because it was a necessity during his time period. Many scientist studied electricity in efforts to invent a light source like the light bulb, but they failed at their attempt. Thomas Edison finally invented the first incandescent light and demonstrated if publically for the first time in 1879.

In 1881, the world's first public electric utility began supplying power for the street lights in Godalming, Surrey, UK. The electricity was also supplied to a number of shops and other buildings in the town. The electricity provided for a number of carbon arc and incandescent lights of a type invented by Joseph Wilson Swan, which predated Edison's invention but was not as practical.
