In "Women in Ancient Egypt," Gay Robins (1993) discusses a Middle Kingdom document in which a father defends himself from a lawsuit initiated by his daughter, who claimed he had given to his presumably new wife some property that his daughter claims to have been hers alone. This shows that circa 1900 BC Egypt, not only a woman could own property on her own, but she could defend it against her own father in a court of law.
Robins also indicates that there is a corpus of documents recording financial transactions demonstrating that some women conducted business deals of much greater value than the typical salary of an Egyptian man. At Deir-El-Medina, 10.3% of the people named in recorded financial transactions were women.
So, yes, Ancient Egyptian women could and did own property, probably as early as private property developed, and demonstrably as early as 1800 BCE.
