This prophetic "stone," spoken of in both the Old Testament and the New, represents Christ, His doctrine, and/or his earthly mission.

Old Testament references:

Psalm 118:22, 23 - The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord's doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.

Isaiah 8:14 - He will be as a sanctuary, But a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense To both the houses of Israel, As a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Isaiah 28:16 - Therefore thus says the Lord God: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily.

Daniel 2:34, 35 - You watched while a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed together, and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; the wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found. And the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.

Daniel 2:45 - "Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold-the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure."

New Testament references:

Matthew 21:42-44 - Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord's doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes'? Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. And whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."

(Note the strong similarity between the latter part of this passage and the dream in Daniel: the image the king saw being "crushed together," becoming like chaff on a threshing floor, and the stone that will "grind to powder" those on whom it falls. Parallel passages: Mark 12:10; Luke 20:17, 18.)

Acts 4:10-12 - "let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. This is the 'stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.' Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

Romans 9:31-33 - but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness. Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone. As it is written: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense, And whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame."

Ephesians 2:20 - having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,

1 Peter 2:5-8 - you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, "Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame." Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone," and "A stone of stumbling And a rock of offense." They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.

Illuminated by other scripture, the passage in Daniel means that the heavenly kingdom established by Christ will infiltrate ("filled the whole earth") and ultimately overthrow ("no trace of them was found") all the governments of man - not in some earthly manner, but through the working of the Holy Spirit. That's why the stone was said to be cut out of the mountain "without hands." Human thought or effort will not - cannot - bring it about; only the power of God.

In the Bible why was Daniel able to interpret Nebuchadnezzars dream?

If you are in reference to king Nebuchadnezzar, then yes he did. In fact, Daniel was the only one that could. Not only did he interpret the dream, but because the king couldn't remember what he dreamt, Daniel had to tell him that too. If you want to know what the king dreamt or what the interpretation was, read the second chapter of the book of Daniel. It's really an amazing part of Bible prophecy.

What does it mean when you dream that you're on a mountain?

Simply being on a mountain in a dream has no special significance apart from the dream itself. Your emotions during the dream can also make an important difference in the dream's interpretation. For example, if you are energetically climbing a great mountain and enjoying magnificent vistas, the dream might reflect your sense of satisfaction and achievement at successfully completing some task. On the other hand, a dream of being stranded on a remote mountain with a terrible storm approaching would express your sense of impending trouble. Either way, the dream expresses your present feelings.
