you cant. i had a wife before the spire and she divorced me cos i was away to long. she also took my child :(
I have to disagree I've never lost my spouse after being trapped in the spire... but i'd wager that extra funds 4 them probably helped that allot.
I kept my spouse. Relationship status needs to be very happy, and you have them follow you to the dock where you get on the ship. Don't dismiss them just get on the ship. Your spouse will say good bye, and be waiting for you in you at your home when you get back.
Visit them right away if you don't want to get divorced right after the mission.
