The two most important would be the that 1) abuelitacould speak Castillian Spanish and be fully understood by Mexicans while Esperanza has to struggle with English, and 2) Mexicans have traditionally welcomed foreign people who intend to live in Mexico while most Americans are not comfortable at all with Mexican immigrants, specially those who reach the US illegally.

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) A celebration where the Mexicans remember and honor their dead ancestors. Some celebrate by going to cemeteries and leaving flowers on their grave or leaving a feast of food overnight to "rejoin" them. In some cities and towns there are colorful parades to celebrate the night.
