if your talking about the scanner in the abandonned ship, you need the HM dive. first get dive, go back to the abandonned ship (actally called the S.S Cactus) and go to the room thats flooded. dive there. search around there for a bit. (id tell you where the exact location was, but i havent played emerald/ruby/diamond in a very long time so i kinda forgot XD.) once you've found it, go back to the scientist guy, and im pretty sure he gives you something

∙ 16y agoyou don't really use it. you trade to capt stern (who's in the harbour in slateport) for either a deepseascale or a deepseatooth. If you give a clamperl the deepseascale and trade it it evolves into a gorebyss. If you give a clamperl a deepseatooth and trade it, it will evolve into huntail.
do some research before you choose because you can only get one. huntail has great attack but gorebyss is one of the best baton passers ever...it's your choice.
