Most Sikh women have Kaur as their middle name due to its definition to relation to Sikh history. In the year of 1699, the tenth Guru, Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the founder of Sikhism had declared that everyone was equal.When Sikhism was being founded, equality was the bolded word. Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji had declared that every woman would have Kaur in her name and every man would have Singh in his name.Below are the definitions for these two term:-Kaur: Princess/ LionessSingh: LionSikhs, til this day, have Kaur or Singh in their names in regards to what the tenth guru had said. He claimed, no matter how rich or poor, what your colour and race is, etc. everyone is equal and everyone is royalty.
In Sikhism, we do not belive in caste system, as it was something that was founded in the Hindu Religion. The only surname you need to know is Singh for boys and Kaur for girls!
