If you are 18 you are no longer a minor and can choose to live with either parent (or neither).
In Texas, if a child is 14 or older, he/she can choose to live with a grandparent as long as permission is given by the custodial parent.

The only states with specific laws addressing this is Indiana and Texas. Beyond that, they simply have a right to express and opinion.
At that age, they can choose whom to live with. In my state it is age 15 that they can choose.
