In general you should drive in the right lane and use the left lane only to pass when necessary. (On some stretches of I-20 and I-35 you'll see this posted.) If traffic is heavy, you should stay in the lane that's going the speed you want to drive; usually this is slower in the right lane and faster in the left lane.
If by "four lane road" you mean four lanes in each direction, that's personal preference -- I leave the far left to the speed demons, the far right to people getting on and off, and second from the right to the tractor-trailers; my preference is second from the left.
The goal is to allow traffic to flow smoothly. Going too slow in the "fast" lane causes traffic to back up (and get mad at you), and rapid lane changes can cause accidents. Pick a lane and stick to it, and go the same speed as those around you -- if everyone did this, we'd all get there on time.
no
On a four lane road you may drive in the left lane if you are passing a car in the right lane or, if you are moving at the prevailing speed of other traffic in that lane.
No. This is a passing lane only. It's nickname is "The suicide lane".
Drive in the lane with the least amount of congestion.
when in england
The right lane is the lane to always drive in. The left lane is to be used for a passing lane.
When driving on a four lane highway or freeway you should use the right hand land or 'thru lane' except when passing. If the right hand lane is designated for slower traffic or for exiting traffic, you'd use the lane to the left of it.
. . . . in the right lane unless passing another vehicle.
That depends on which country you a driving in.
When you are in a country that drives on the right, then generally you should drive in the right lane; the left lane is for passing. When you are in a country that drives on the left, then generally you should drive in the left lane; the right hand lane is for passing only.
In general, you should keep to the right at all times unless passing, and you definitely should remain in the right lane when traveling below the speed limit.
The inside lane, so merging traffic doesn't interfere with your driving.
