The only person in the community who had books in "The Giver" was The Giver himself. He held the memories of the past and used the books to transmit that knowledge to the Receiver of Memory, Jonas.
At first, the book speaks of a release that takes place in the House of the Old where Roberto has had a beautiful ceremony of release. Later, the book speaks of a newchild that has been named Roberto before placing him into a family unit.
In the book "The Giver," all ceremonies are held in the Auditorium. It is a designated space within the community where important events, such as the Ceremony of Twelve, take place under the watchful eye of the community members.
The very last ceremony celebrated in the community in "The Giver" is the Ceremony of Release.
