Starting up a saltwater pool

Maintaining Proper PH In Your Swimming Pool

The first thing you need is to get the PH right

PH determines the acidity of your pool water and is measured on a scale from 0 to 14. Neutral has a PH of 7. If your PH is below 7, your water is acidic, above 7 the water is basic, or alkaline. The correct PH range or balance for you swimming pool is 7.4. Getting away from this number may cause eye irritation, scaling, pitting of the interior finish, staining, cloudy water and chlorine inefficiency. To lower PH add muriatic acid and to and to raise it add soda ash. CAUTION: never add water to muriatic acid as this may cause a violent reaction. always add acid to water. Also, acid is heavier than water so adding it directly to the pool will cause it to sit on the bottom, stir the bottom around wit a brush when you have added it

salt water pools have a chlorine generation systems. These will produce a higher PH chlorine so this is another reason to be consistent about checking your PH. Total Alkalinity

Correct alkalinity level should be between 80 and 150 ppm. Sodium bicarbonate is used to raise Total Alkalinity and Muriatic Acid will lower it.

Chlorine

Chlorine should not be introduced for several days after pool start-up as this will delay or slow the process of curing the new interior finish. If you use well water, once you are sure all metals are out of the water, then you can add a residual of chlorine. Salt should not be added on start-ups for at least 15 days.

Note By taking a sample of ypour water to the pool shop they will be able to Analise it and tel you exactly what is required

this depends on the system used and the size of the pool. testers are available to determine if there is enough salt in the water. these are available at most pool shops.

How do salt levels in salt pool go up?

If you are adding salt to a salt water pool with a salt water chlorination system and the TDS level does not go up then the problem probably lies with the chlorination system not working (the electrolysis unit or power supply). Adding salt directly to the pool will increase the TDS (Total Dissolved Salts) concentration of the water.

What is a chlorine generator?

Many people are choosing to remodel their swimming pool systems to add saltwater chlorination. With a saltwater pool system, a chlorine generator is added to the pool's filtration system. The water circulates through the chlorinator, where salt produces a chlorine gas that dissolves into the water. That chlorine in turn, breaks down and turns into salt, cycling the process all over again.

Instructions to change chlorine pool system to salt system?

Select the salt water chlorination system you would like to use. this will come with specifications and instructions on how to retrofit the unit onto an existing pool filtration system. It is difficult to give instructions on how to do something when the exact nature of the materials available is not known.

What should be the salt level be on a salt system pool?

The ideal salt level is between 2700-3400 ppm (parts per million) with 3200 ppm being optimal. Before adding salt to your pool, test the water to check your salt level.

Can you make an Epsom salt water pool?

The usual reason for salt in a pool is for chlorination. Epsom salt won't work with salt/chlorine generators. BUT, you can add epsom salt to your water.

What is the problem with a salt system that won't generate chlorine?

Have you followed all the steps of the start - up for the salt generator. Is the salt system plugged in or hard wired in? Have you turned up the dial or digital for the right readings? Have you added the proper type or amount of salt? Have you added the proper amount of conditioner and does that reading for conditioner reach 70 to 90 ppm? Have you added the other chemicals needed to balance the water? -- liquid chlorine, muriatic acid etc. k

What is the difference in equipment specifications between chlorine and salt water inground pools?

There is no difference other then the actual salt and saltwater chlorination equipment.

Why does your salt generator quit and say high salt or amps?

You have probably added too much salt. Your system is out of balance.

What are the pros and cons of chlorination in swimming pools?

Chlorine specifically or all types of sanitizers. You need to have a sanitizer to keep the water clean. Chlorine and Bromine are the two most popular. There is other less common sanitizers. And remember, using a salt system does not mean you don't have chlorine. A salt system uses the salt to generate chlorine in the water.

What is meant by electro chlorination system?

That would mean a saltwater pool. With a salt water pool the water is run through a electronic chlorinater this is a device that separates chlorine from the salt turns it into chlorine gas which is then simultaneously dissolved into the water. you never have to add chlorine.

What is salt cracking?

This has to do with passwords in computing. A salt is a random datum which is added by the system to a password to make cracking more difficult.
