Three types of stem cells in adults are hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, and neural stem cells.
Humans are capable of generating new neurons only upto the age of 20 or so. Till then, there are very few neuron stem cells that divide to produce neurons. Others are all arrested. ie. they cannot undergo cell division. Beyond the age of 20, there are practically no neuron stem cells. They are all locked.
