Hades is the ancient god of the underworld
Hades was the god of the Underworld in the Ancient times. In Greek mythology, Hades, the ruler of the underworld had 2 other brothers, Poseidon and Zeus. They each divided up the universe, Zeus claiming the sky, Poseidon the sea, and Hades the underworld. The Greek people believed to travel into his kingdom when they died. He was feared. To say the word "Hades" was scary. Although he ruled the underworld, he was not considered death itself. if you died in ancient Greece, your soul was said to have ventured to the underworld. Your family would place a coin in your mouth to pay for the passage across the river into the underworld. Once you came into the underworld, you would not come out. (a few exceptions were made in Greek mythology such as Hercules)
