They are most likely to be looking at the rider.
Hunt seat equitation is your ability to ride your horse. Being able to post on the correct diagonals, keeping your horse in control, and keeping a good pace, and be able to ride a pattern. In showing you have an equitation class and a showmanship class. Showmanship classes are based on your ability to show off your horse while riding. Have them pick up their feet enough so they won't trip, keeping their heads up, staying in control, correct diagonals, putting your horse's nose down, and just make them look pretty. Equitation is based on your riding, Showmanship is based on making the horse look pretty as well as your riding abilities.
equitation is based on the rider, so, the rider must have deep heels, a still leg in the correct position, soft, quiet hands, a flat back o/f with a slight arch on the flat, they must stay in the center of their horses o/f, their horse show be going in a medium frame, the horse should take off at the proper spot (no extremely long spots/chips) and the overall performance, whether u/s or o/f must look smooth and effortless. at a show horse and rider should appear neat and trim with proper attire.
hunter is all about look and manners. regular hunters is where they judge the horse, and hunter equitation is when they judge the person riding.
There are basically two different type of ponies an equitation and a hunter. A hunter horse simply means that it has a nice gait, nice movement, stride, and a nice rounded jump to it. If you ever compete in a hunter division, it pretty much means that the judge is judging the horse more than the rider. So when you are being judged, you want you make it look like the horse is doing all the work. At a trot and/or canter, you want to let the reins go loose and let your horse stretch its neck. And at the jumps you want the horse/pony's leg to round up by its head. You cant trust this information (: I compete in both hunter and equitation with my 4 yr old pony :D
means that the horse is dreading to make the rider fall
You put on a saddle. You would also put on a saddle pad, bridle and any other things that that horse would need (example: splint boots, bell boots, polo wraps, crouper, martingale, ect.).
Good cooperation tally of rider and horse. Right clothing and dressage equipment, formal dressing, etc. Good look of rider and horse. Outstanding riding skills.
if you know how to ride and can look after him or her go for it
A roping horse has the job of running after the cow or steer keeping in the perfect position for the rider/riders to lasso the steer's horns. This can be done with a single horse/rider or 2 horse/rider teams known as team roping or more commonly 'heading and heeling'. With the 2 horse/rider teams, and the reason it's called 'heading and heeling' the steer comes out of the chute followed by the first horse/rider and then the delayed follow by the 2nd team. The first rider has to catch the horns (heading). Within a couple of seconds the 2nd rider has to rope at least one hind leg (heeling). The horses have to be as well trained as the ropers themselves and it is a difficult and demanding sport. But it is so much fun to watch. Like with most things, the horse/rider teams that are really good make it look easy.
If you are actually riding the horse, you should (obviously) know which gait you are in. If not, look at how fast the horse is going, the rider's position (forward seat?) the hoof pattern etc.
