Epimetheus created all animals, including the dog. His brother, Prometheus, created humans, but he took more time giving them individual traits. Since Epimetheus finished first, he took all of the good gifts, such as running fast, smelling well, and jumping long distances, for the animals. Prometheus felt bad for the humans, so he stole the sacred fire of Olympus and gave it to the humans. Zeus was angry and dared him to put another toe out of line. Prometheus did so. The humans usually sacrificed the best pieces of meat for Zeus, so Prometheus put good meat in a small pile and put a bunch of bones in a larger pile. He then covered the bones with good meat and presented both piles to Zeus, asking him to pick one. Zeus picked the larger one, and when he found out what happened, he chained Prometheus to a rock and made vultures eat his liver every day. He was later freed by Heracles, a.k.a. Hercules.
