In my 2004 Chevy silverado hd truck You can feel a knock or clunk in your steering column and front end when turning or going over bumps does anyone have similar probs or know what the solution is?

, I have the same truck,year and everything i have the same problem that's what I'm doing on here trying to see if i can find out what it is!I had a friend tell me that it was probley the intermdiate steering shaft.He said this year was bad about it going out,if you find out please post it I'll do the same and keep our eyes and ears open for the answer! I know one thing its about to drive me crazy!!

There is a known issue with the intermediate steering shaft that everybody seems to have. I however had a worn out bushing on my left upper control arm BUT the replacement only lasted 6 months and I know have the same noise. I have not checked it out again but will with my next OLF and will post again. So check those two items and post back as well.

I have the same year thought the front end was falling out of the truck hitting bumps and rough road. What I've done, and it works for me, is separate the steering shaft under the hood I think it takes a 15mm socket. Secure the steering wheel with string rope whatever prior to separating the shaft just don't let steering wheel move or change position! After separating the 2 shafts gently slide intermediate shaft towards the steering wheel, you'll notice a rubber boot that it fits into, slide it up and down about 20 to 25 times put back together and test drive. What this does is pumps grease back up the shaft to the steering wheel area. Chevy supposedly made some ridiculous repair kit that didn't do anything! I do this every 8-9 months.

i work for GM. the steering i-shaft is a common problem for almost all models 1998-present. sometimes they can be removed and lubed, other times it's a replacement. check with your local dealership.
