In many of the world's civilized nations, as well as in the United States also too, clocks are advanced one hour at some point in the Spring ... for example, if you make the change when the clock reaches 1:23, then you adjust Mickey's hour hand so that the clock reads 2:23. Clocks then remain in that condition until some point in the Autumn. During this portion of the year, human activities continue at their regularly scheduled times, as if the clocks had not been changed. Effects of the change include: -- Having lost an hour of sleep on the night of the change, everyone feels uncomfortable for several days after. Some may not feel normal again until the Fall. -- Daylight appears to arrive an hour later in the morning, and appears to persist an hour longer in the evening, allowing for more family outdoor recreation in the evening, before dark. There have been reports that lawns burn and shrivel and dairy cattle become confused and disoriented during this period of time, because of the 'increased daylight'. There is no credible scientific evidence to support these claims. Indeed, scientific data collected by means of accurately calibrated measurement equipment indicate that there is in fact no increase in the duration of daylight, except for the increase due to the inclination of the earth's axis, in combination with its orbital motion. It is as if the sun is totally unaware that humanity has changed its clocks !
