It is not a gospel fact that he was he was killed by an arrow in the eye. The only evidence we have is a figure that may or may not be Harold clutching an arrow over his eye on The Beyeux Tapestry.

However, there seems to be little proof, that the eye wound killed him. Some references seem to suggest that he was trampled to death. Others show that is was a spear and not an arrow that pierced his eye.
