Best Answer

Calcium by itself is not considered an antioxidant like zinc and selenium. However, while calcium travels through the human digestive tract, it combines with other atoms to form molecules that function as antioxidants. People who swallow any amount of calcium carbonate enjoy a lower risk of death from colorectal cancer compared to people who don't swallow any calcium supplements. However, after absorption into the human blood stream, calcium, in excess, has been shown to cause damage to cardiovascular health and prostate health. Swallowing one 600mg calcium carbonate tablet daily seems to be the optimal dosage for cancer, Heart disease, and bone health. By contrast, iron, copper, manganese, and aluminum are pro-oxidant metals that will, in excess, cause great damage to every cell in our bodies and increase our risk of death from heart disease, cancer, and a dozen other killer diseases.
