In the pilot episode, Vincent read her the book "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens while Catherine was recuperating from a vicious assault. He reads the last chapter of this book to her 8 months later on her apartment balcony.
He also recited poetry in the episodes, including Shakespearean sonnets.
