Henry Ford started the automotive revolution with the introduction of mass producing the Model A Ford in Detroit, MI. Ford was the first company to use a mass production assembly line. The Model A was available in any color as long as it was black. Cadillac and Chevrolet soon followed suit in the Detroit area, marking it as the Motor City Capital of the World.

Essex cars were one of the first cars to go into production. They were made by Essex Motor Company from 1918–1922. In 1922 the Hudson Motor Company of Detroit, Michigan made the car until 1932, when it went out of production.

The modern assembly line was patented by Ransom Olds in 1901 at the Olds Motor Vehicle Company 7 years before the Ford Motor Company was founded in 1908. Mass production goes back as far as the Chinese in the 16th century. Henry Ford did not discover or invent anything. He just perfected what was already there.
