It is a celebration of the Polish resistance against the Nazis, which ultimately failed after 63 days of fighting, because the Soviets did not advance as far as the Resistance expected, and the Soviets would not cooperate with British and US forces that were airdropping supplies. Some believe that the Soviets purposely allowed the Polish forces to be crushed and the city to be destroyed. Polish people regularly celebrate the anniversary of the Warsaw uprising. They start on the same day and hour as the actual event every year and celebrate with flags and flares and smoke. It is a country-wide celebration, much like the 4th of July in the US.
Nuremburg there were trials in many cities. Whereas in Nuremberg the trials were about war crimes and crimes against peace, the Franfurt trials were about the Holocaust and crimes against humanity.

Essentially, to break the siege. Which they did. The Soviet army attacked the Germans north and south of Stalingrad on 18th of November of 1942, and encircled the German army in the city on November 22nd.

The allies dicussed Berlin with the Soviets and because the Soviets fought the Germans the longest and were responsible for 60% of allied casualties it was only fair that the soviets would assault the city. Also before the assault the Soviets barraged Berlin with the largest artillery bombardment in history using 50,000 pieces of artillery.
