It is actually the Earth that moves, not the stars, but from the surface of the earth it appears that the stars are moving. Stars rise in the east and set in the west, rotating around an apparent "pole" formed by the North Staplus.

The planets appear to move across the sky because of physical processes involved in motion, which includes the rotation of the Earth, and the momentum that causes them to revolve in their orbits around the Sun. The stars in the night sky, by comparison, do not appear to move as much as the relatively nearby planets and as such seem to occupy a fixed position with respect to each other. Throughout the year as the Earth moves in its orbit, and the other planets continue in theirs, the apparent angle against this background of stars of each planet appears to change, hence, their motion can be observed.

It depends where you are on Earth. If you're on the equator, the stars rise and set, east to west. if you're at the north pole, the stars will spin around you in a clockwise motion.
