Immigration is allowed. Illegal immigration is prohibited. Nearly 8 million immigrants came to the US between 1901 and 1910. The US allows 125,000 refugees into the country each year. In the 1970's, 4.5 million legal immigrants were admitted. In the 1980's, 6.0 million legal immigrants were admitted. In the 1990's, 8.6 million legal immigrants were admitted. Every legal immigrant is a welcomed part of the fabric of American Life.

Immigration to the west coast mainly consisted of Chinese immigrants (except during the Chinese Exclusion Act). Chinese immigrants worked on the railroad and moved somewhat throughout the west. Immigration in the east mainly consisted of southern and eastern European immigrants. They would arrive at Ellis Island and rarely move about the east, they would usually stay in major cities such as NYC and Philadelphia. Immigrants of the east had difficulties assimilating, as most of the WASPS wanted, because they tended to keep their culture and traditions. Most of the immigrants were young men and had little education and did not speak much English and went to work in factories.
Without a government system in place to teach English to new immigrants (as they have in Israel), the law would only serve to persecute immigrants, and or prevent them from employment, even in jobs where language isn't a factor.

In the Eastern region of the United States, the immigrants were processed in Ellis Island, in the Statue of Liberty. In fact, there was never a problem processing the European immigrants and almost no one got rejected at all. However, if you were an Asian immigrant, your luck was not as good as an European immigrant. There in the Western region, you would be processed in Angel Island, in the Alacatraz island, near the coast of San Francisco. A rough 65% of the Asian immigrants made it out safely into America. Lots of them were detained, and delayed for days, months, and sometimes years. Sometimes they would stay there for life as if they were prisoners.
