You would use simple distillation when the two products you are trying to separate have large difference in boiling points. Fractional distillation is needed when the two products have very close boiling points (like Hexane and toluene).

In petroleum refining, the word "fractionation", not "fractional distillation" is used, often interchangeably with "distillation".

When we have a crude mixture of different compounds which have very minor difference in their boiling points and cannot be separated simple distillation, then fractional distillation is used.

This is just a guess, but I would assume the term is to distinguish it from fractional distillation.

Fractional distillation and the impact on the environment?

Fractional distillation it is separating mixtures via their boiling points. Fractional distillation is done by adding some sort of material into the column that the vapor travels before being cooled and condensed while. Since the fractional distillation means the separation of a mixture into different componenets.Suppose the raw material entering into the distillation column contains many fraction(for example,if a crude oil is entering,it contains gases, gasoline, kerosene etc). if a distillation is done for such a material.this will be the fractional distillation.Because in a distillation column you will separate different components present in the crude Check the related question below to know more.

What technique would separate a solution with many components?

Fractional distillation is only useful if the components are liquid, and the separation is based on boiling point. Another, more applicable method would be chromatography, either thin layer, paper, or column.

Why would you separate a homogeneous mixture of two miscible liquids in this way but not a mixture of two immiscible liquids?

You can use simple distillation if the difference in boiling points is greater 25 degrees C. You can use fractional distillation if the difference in boiling points is less than 25 degrees.

by the process of fractional distillation

How can argon be made?

It would be ridiculously difficult to make argon, but you can obtain it by fractional distillation of the atmosphere, of which argon makes up a small fraction.

When would there be a temperature drop in the middle not near the end of fractional distillation What does it signify?

A temperature drop in the middle and not near the end of fractional distillation just means that you distilled the substance you wanted more rapidly than expected. It also means that your original mixture had a higher amount of the other substance than expected.
