In 510 BCE, Sparta assisted Athens expel its tyrant ruler. They remained allies for 60 years, through the Persian Wars until Athens assisted Sparta put down one of its serf rebellions, but turned to supporting the serfs. This led to estrangement, culminating in the Peloponnesian War as Athens tried to dominate Greece.
