Ive been smoking for two years now and I'm up to around a pack a day. I wont kid around and say that smoking is good for your health, because its not. There's no way around the health issue so there's no need to even attempt. I smoke because as a human being, I can make the conscious decision to cause myself harm over a long period of time. We are the only species on the planet that will intentionally inhale smoke. We are also the only species that build skyscrapers, design computers, formulate governments, practice any form of trade or use any kind of product for pleasure. Smoking is a symbol of our ability as human beings to contradict nature, to set ourselves apart from, and indeed, rise above the natural world. Smoking is the keystone of the duality of mankind, our knowledge of good and evil, and our unparalleled ability to choose the latter. Smoking is human. Smoking is freedom. Smoking may not be good for our health, but how many commonplace practices are? Fast food? Alcohol? Even driving to the grocery store has a comparable mortality rate. So i say light up another cigarette, and smoke it to the inherent uniqueness of the human race.
