Most cardiovascular medications are aimed at managing hypertension (high blood pressure). Depending on the type of medication, it can target the kidneys (responsible for maintaining blood pressure through the renin-angiotensin system) or even cholesterol-lowering medications (some which prevent cholesterol from crossing the GI tract into the body, others which prevent cholesterol from re-forming once it has gotten across, others which cause cholesterol to be expelled from the body).
