They fought, they killed and burned and did whatever they could to discourage expansion. Unfortunately for them there were many more Europeans (white people) than Indians and a large portion of the Europeans were poor and looking for land and a way to improve their lives. They simply kept coming and slowly pushed the Indians away in front of them.
The Amerindians resisted oppression by fighting back. Too often, the onslaught of settlers or occupying soldiers was too strong, and most of them perished.

Before any Europeans came Native Americans already had their own belief systems and ways of life . Plus the way that the Eurpeans went about trying to assimilate them(killing, conquest, lies,torture, kidnapping..ect) was barbaric to say the least.
