They were not similar at all. The English set out to recreate English in the new world. They cut down trees, built fences and houses, plowed up land, planted foreign crops, brought in foreign animals, and foreign insects. They practiced environmental terrorism against the Native Americans. The Native Americans had the philosophy that no one could own land(unlike the English) but man was to be a caretaker of land. They farmed the forest taking care not to over hunt or over use the land. When they did plant crops the young boys of the tribe were assigned the task to keep animals out. Conflicts would breakout between the colonists and the Native Americans because the colonists animals would break into the crops planted by the tribe. The colonists refused to control their herds of cows or sheep. Should an animal die because they were bothering the crops the colonists would demand repayment of the animals and the future animals that would come from it. The worse insect brought with the colonists was the honey bee. It killed native crops and plants.

In the Plymouth Colony, they use different material for houses, have fences and has a farming system. In an Indian village, it has huts made mostly out of sticks and is located in a plain area near trees.

How do you write a compare and contrast essay about The Plymouth colony and the Jamestown settlement and the founding of English America?

I will give you a suggestion to help you. Make a Venn diagram for your comparison and contrast of the colonies. With it laid out that way you can write the essay. I would also suggest you start with Jamestown since they came in 1607 and Plymouth happens in 1620. You could do a paragraph or two on Jamestown explaining why they came to Virginia and what happened. Then, move to Plymouth and explore how their colony was set up and why. Then, compare the two, and finally contrast them. I would end the essay with a summary putting it all together. A good opening line for your essay is " the purpose of this paper is to compare and contrast Jamestown and Plymouth " you can use this line with just about anything you write and it will help focus your thinking for your essay.

What is the difference between the government of Jamestown Virginia and Plymouth Massachusetts?

Much of the contrast between the two colonies had to do with the reason they came to America. Jamestown settlers sought economic gain and were sponsored by the Virginia Company of London, an organization that wanted to expand English trade and get a wider market for Britainâ??s manufactured products. New England settlers moved to America due to the religious persecution they had suffered in England. While most people in the Jamestown colonies were members of the Church of England, the Pilgrims were dissenters from the Church of England and established the Puritan Church.
