Australia's longest bridge used to be found crossing Bramble Bay between Brisbane and the Redcliffe Peninsula, in southeast Queensland. It was the Houghton Highway and its parallel bridge, the Ted Smout Memorial Bridge.

However, that changed in 2013, with the opening of a new bridge over the Macleay River plain near the small town of Frederickton, in the Kempsey Shire, New South Wales. It is part of the Pacific Highway and has a span of 3.2 kms.
