Bournemouth is considered part of the county of Dorset for ceremonial purposes.

The town has been part of Dorset since local government recorganisation in 1974, although it is no longer administered by Dorset County Council as Bournemouth Borough Council was made an independent unitary authority in 1997.

Prior to 1974, Bournemouth was included in the county of Hampshire and the point between Bournemouth and Poole where Dorset and Hampshire previously met is still known as "County Gates".

Bournemouth, United Kingdom?

Located on the west coast of England, Bournemouth is one of the country’s premier seaside towns. Historically known for being a favorite with Victorian society’s wealthiest people, Bournemouth is still a thriving resort today. One of the biggest attractions of Bournemouth are its miles of sandy beaches. In the summer, these very beaches are crammed with sun bathers and holidaymakers who have come to experience a traditional English seaside holiday. Bournemouth is also famous for its public gardens. Visitors will be enchanted by the upper, lower and central gardens which still retain much of their Victorian heritage and are listed by the English Heritage as a Grade II site. Perhaps the most famous Bournemouth landmark is Bournemouth Pier. Originally opened in 1880, it is still the epitome of England’s seaside with its broad wooden promenade and vast array of attractions. Traditional yet modern, Bournemouth is one of the best representations of the English seaside town left today and is the perfect place for a vacation.
