Then open up the level so that when the pedal is bypassed, it is as loud as the the clean channel. Then slowly open up the distortion so that you get slight distortion without losing clarity, usually somewhere between 9 and 12 o clock is enough. When it goes all buzzsaw, then there is too much distortion. Adjust the EQ settings so that you get the balance you want.
