Born George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr., on February 14 (yes, a valentine baby) 1859, he was an American engineer most famous for his creation of the what is now a common carnival ride that we call the Ferris wheel named after him. He created this ride for the 1893 Chicago World's Columbian Exposition.
This is an interesting question. The invention of the ferris wheel did affect society. It led to the creation of many amusement parks and was usually the most beautiful and eye-appealing thing there.
Fern remembered most the Ferris wheel at the fair in "Charlotte's Web." She recalled the thrill of riding the Ferris wheel with her friend, Henry Fussy, and the fun they had together. It was a special moment that stuck with her.

The wheel.
The London Eye is a giant ferris wheel owned by Merlin Entertainments on the South bank of the River Thames. You enter a British Airways capsule with around 20 other people which is completely transparent, so to be able to see views across London. You, very slowly, go around the ferris wheel, which, I believe takes around 45 minutes to go all the way around. Tickets cost around £10.00.

George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. wanted to amaze people as they prepared for the Columbian Exposition in Chicago, better known as the World's Fair of 1893; he hoped to invent something that would be superior to the Eiffel Tower, which had been created for the World's Fair of 1889 in Paris. His giant "pleasure wheel," later known as a Ferris Wheel, certainly succeeded: At the fair, about 38,000 passengers rode it daily, and when the fair closed, more than a million and a half people had taken the twenty-minute ride and marveled at the view. In fact, some newspapers said it was the most popular ride at the exposition. Unfortunately, rather than basking in his fame, Ferris spent much of his next two years mired in lawsuits, accusing the fair's management of stealing most of the profits from his amazing ride. But while he did not live long enough to enjoy his success, his Ferris Wheel continues to delight and amaze more than 120 years after he invented it.
