What is the origin and meaning of the words Christ Christian and Christianity?

All three words come from the Greek word Christos, which means "annointed one." "Annointed one" is understood to mean "Messiah," the savior. Christ refers to Jesus of Nazareth, who is accepted as the Messiah by Christians. Christianity is the religion that believes that Jesus is the Messiah. A Christian is someone who believes in Christianity.

Is the Hebrew messiah the Christian antichrist?

What religion believes Jesus Christ is coming back Islam Christianity or both?

Islam believes Jesus Christ was only a prophet, not the Messiah. So the answer is: Christianity, which teaches that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, and is coming back, the hope of all Christians.Another Answer:Both do but only Christianity believes Jesus will return as the King of kings. Some branches of Islam teach that Jesus will return to earth not as King or Lord of lords as the Bible teaches, but rather to accompany their 'mahdi' - the Islamic messiah, and to convert the world, including Christianity, to Islam by force.

When did the Jews Resent acceptance of Jesus?

There is no resentment in accepting Jesus from the Jewish point of view. The acceptance of Jesus is an acceptable practice for Christians in the Jewish point of view. In fact, one needs to accept Jesus in order to be a Christian. Wouldn't you agree?Judaism has no requirements for conversion and says that every religion has a path to God. So, Christians are considered to be a righteous people in the eyes of Judaism regardless of the Christian position in regards to messianic concepts. In contrast to Christianity accepting Jesus and using Jesus as a guide, the Jewish people follow Torah as a twofold law (the written and the oral tradition) otherwise it is not Judaism. So, Christianity has Jesus and Judaism has Torah and that is where the lines are drawn. The idea of a Messiah in Judaism is different from the Christian concept so Jews don't really mind if Christians accept Jesus as a messiah or savior. Not all Jewish movements require a belief in a personal messiah who will arrive one day. The Jews who believe in a personal messiah who will arrive some time or another do not believe in a concept of a supernatural messiah. Instead, the claim is that every generation has a potential messiah who will bring the messianic age (a time of peace in this world). In any case, Jews don't resent Christians accepting Jesus as a messiah. However, Jews dislike the fact that some want to force them to accept Jesus as a messiah because that would deny the right of Jews to follow their own religion-Judaism. Jews have different world views and world views need to be respected.

Why doesn't Israel celebrate Jesus's birthday?

Christian Answer:You must understand the Jews are still waiting for the messiah to be born. they refuse to take Jesus as the messiah as he was born in a stable and not in a palace as the king of the Jews should be born.Jewish Answer:Jesus has no relevance to the Jewish religion, which is the dominant religion in Israel. You might as well ask why the United States doesn't celebrate Buddha's birthday. And just a note to all Christians: First of all, Jews rejection of Jesus has NOTHING to do with where he was born. It is because the Jewish definition of "messiah" is completely different than the Christian definition. Also, not all Jews believe in the doctrine of a messiah. In fact, most believe it as a metaphor for a future time of peace. Only the Orthodox, and some Conservative Jews take it literally to mean a man.

Does a religious upbringing force children to believe in god?

Yes, they do force children to believe in God, but a religious upbringing tells them a religion (if they don't know) and the upbringing will let them know that almost all religions believe in God. The only problem is they believe in different gods. In Christianity, they believe in God AND Jesus Christ as the Son. In Islam, They believe in God and pronounce it as Allah. Islam does not believe that Allah has a Son. Hinduism believes in statues. And Judaism believes that Jesus Christ is a prophet. Christianity also believes that Jesus Christ is our savior and God gave us a gift called salvation. They sometimes call Jesus as the Messiah, which means Jesus Christ. There is a difference between messiah and Messiah. A messiah is a savior or a liberator, while a Messiah is Jesus.
