True, Japan would have been halted by shrinking materials....eventually. However, the dropping of the atomic bomb, both in Hiroshima & Nagasaki brought Japan to it's knees. A third location was hinted at, but never bombed. It must be said that prior to the use of the atomic bomb. Many members of the Diet (governing body) were advocating ending the war.
