The motion in the mantle is known as convection currents which helps move earth's slabs, known as plates. Convection occurs in the upper mantle known as the asthenosphere.
Tectonic plates.
A tectonic plate.
There are breaks in the Earth's crust where slabs of rock slip past each other. These places are called fault lines.
Usually, but not always. Earthquakes are caused when solid slabs of earth are either pulled apart allowing magma from the Earth's core to rise up in the crack or when solid slabs are forced together. This most commonly happens at the boundaries betweent the major tectonic plates but can happen anywhere a crack develops in the plate.

Non suspended concrete slabs sit on the ground directly. They are different from suspended slabs because suspended slabs are above the ground and are supported by beams.

A hole appeared when I was digging a trench for a wall. After clearing the hole I found there to be two very large slabs of stone about 30mm apart. I pushed a tape measure down between the stone slabs and it went down to beyond 7 metres. This was in Herefordshire, England. Can anyone explain what I had found and how was it produced? Kind regards, Steve.
The answer will vary slightly depending on assumptions: will the slabs have a space between them, and will you be cutting the slabs to fill fractions. 21 feet is equal to 14.2 of the 450 mm slabs. 19 feet is equal to 12.9 of the slabs. To complete the rectangular area, 14.2 x 12.9 = 183 slabs.
