The Babylonians made and utilized a single-tube seed drill, but the exact year is not known. It was sometime around 1500 BC. The Chinese developed a multi-tube seed drill, but again the year is not known. It was sometime in the 2nd century BC. Camillo Torello made the first seed drill in Europe. He received a patent for it in 1566. The seed drill as we now know it was invented in 1701 by agricultural pioneer Jethro Tull (Yes, the band was named after him).
Jethro Tull who was born in the year 1674 in Basildon, Berkshire invented a machine that is now called the grain drill. This machine helps in increasing harvest by planting in straight lines.
Jethro tull studided Britich common Law at St_John's_College,_Oxford, but became Ill with a pulmenary disorder and did not complete his studies . He later studied at The Honourable Society of Gray's Inn, and stood for the Bar about 1693.He travled south for his health and necasme a gentleman farmer. he invented a number of agricultural devices, the seed drill , the loop collar and the concept of rotation craop farming.he penned the book "On the merits of Horse hoed husbandry" on the use of using horses as draught animals and rotating crops on a 7 year rotational basis
