Hi, In Windows Server 2003, by default you can use 3 client access licenses; however you can increase the number of licenses by adding the Terminal server in you network and purchase more licenses from Microsoft. Once you add the Terminal server role on the server, then simply add the Terminal Services Licensing from "Add remove windows component" With this way you can use more than three session at a time. Let me know if you have any questions. -Nitin

What is software licensing?

A license is a way for software manufacturers to make sure that bootleg software is not supported. You must have a license(for businesses) to run certain software. This applies when you have say Windows Server 2003. the server has it's own license. You need client licenses to access this software from the workstation pc's. They are called Client Access Licenses (CAL's) and must be bought in order for them to access the server. You need one for each client. and they are not cheap.

How much did Windows NT 3.51 and Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 Server each cost when they first came out?

These are hard numbers to nail down, as you had to also purchase licenses for client access. Depending on the edition and number of licenses, the price ranges from about $299 to over $6,000. Different stores could (and still do) charge higher or lower prices for retail and OEM copies as well.
