Incorrect federal taxes were taken out of my paycheck this year. Im being told i cannot get that money back because they have already reported it to the IRS is this correct?

If your employer overwithheld taxes from your wages, change your W4 to have less withheld until you are where you want to be. Your employer could get your withholding back by filing corrected Forms 941, but they are a major pain and I'm sure they don't want to do it. If the incorrect withholding is for 2007, it is on your W2 and will be rebated when you file your income tax return.

Personally, i would rather pay the money myself to have more control over the amount and timing of the payment. Generally though if your pay is garnished because of outstanding debts, you probably have already shown some lack of willingness to pay, hense the subtraction from the paycheck. You may no longer have a choice.
