Why is a greater force needed to move a refrigerator than it's needed to move a book?

The formula for force is Force= Mass x Acceleration. Therefore, you have to use a greater force to move the refrigerator because it has a greater mass than the book.

When you push on a stationary object and it doesnt move what kind of force is most likely opposing your efforts?

static friction

Why would it require greater force to start a refrigerator moving than to start a book moving?

the force (F) to move is the coefficient of friction(u) times the normal force, or weight(W). F = uWSince the weight of the fridge is much more than the book it takes more force to move it

If the force applied to an object doesnt make the object move then no friction has been done is this true?

Yes, there is us. Static Friction.
