The Asian small clawed otter is the smallest otter and measures as small as 26 inches and 2.2 pounds. (Otter length includes the tail.) The giant otter found only in South America. They can be about 71 inches long and weigh up to 34 pounds. Otter give birth to live young. An otter usually has three to five pups depending on the species. Gestation is around 2 months although otters have the capability of delayed implantation. Otters have about one litter per year. However, otters are not able to reproduce until they are about two years old, and some species are even older. Otters are very fun to watch. They are playful, agile and clever. If you are able to observe an otter it is worth the time and effort.
