Persia has been an empire or administrative district in a larger empire for nearly 6000 years. Persia was renamed (internationally) as Iran in 1935. The current Islamic Republic of Iran was declared in 1979.
Iran became a theocracy in 1979.
It was in Iran
Iran invaded no country in 1990. Iraq invaded Kuwait in this year, but Iran and Iraq are two entirely different countries.
After a coup in 1953 Iran became autocratic. It became an Islamic Republic in 1979 to help keep out international influence.
The country to which you may be referencing, is the Islamic republic of Iran. The aforementioned was known as Iran, or Persia, during the reign of Shah Reza Pahlavi, until he was overthrown, during what has come to be known as the Islamic Revolution, or Iranian Revolution, during the year 1979. I should be mentioned that Iran is the largest majority Shi'ite country in the world.
They had an eight year war with Iran
Iraq was at war with Iran during an eight year period.
Iran is its own country.
In the year 2005, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad became the president of Iran. He had nineteen percent of the votes in the first round and about sixty-one percent of the votes in the second round.
Persia became Iran.
It was the revolution in Iran in year 1979 against the reign of Shah Iran Reda Bahalwi. Accordingly, the Islamic Republic in Iran was established.
Iran has more than 7000 year history and it was an independent country-- named "Aryanna" which then changed into "Iran" and as Greeks called it "Persia"-- pretty much all of it.
