If it's your 2008 return and your filed already (December), (using a pay stub or something). than probably not...because you really can't do what you just tried...they won't process returns until at least February when they get the information from employers, banks, and such. Also, by law you must file a return for an entire year, whivh clearly yours can't be. Bucking the system may make you more prone to audit though.
In my experience, they tell you why when they notify you of the delay. Look for a toll-free number that you can call for more information.
If this is an original return, 90 percent of the time you'll still receive your refund within three weeks with direct deposit, six weeks for a paper check. If it's an amended return, normally it's 6 to 8 weeks, and a processing delay will add another 45 days.
I got this code on the "where is my refund" on IRS.GOV when I checked to see what date I should expect my return. I had already had my refund "Accepted" according to Turbo Tax but when I checked this am it said there has been a delay and to call the IRS and give reference code 1541. I called IRS and they are saying I am having my refund looked into for alleged unreported income from 2011. They didn't say much else except they will be in touch. I would assume if you get this code you are being looked into for one reason or another. Hope this helps.
If anyhing, it's the opposite...not reporting tips when your in an industry like food service where they are common, may delay things.
A firm would delay the payment of Accounts Payable because they could use the money to invest in short term investments and earn some return

If a taxpayer died before filing a return for 2012, the taxpayer's spouse or personal representative may have to file and sign a return for that taxpayer. A personal representative can be an executor, administrator, or anyone who is in charge of the deceased taxpayer's property. If the deceased taxpayer did not have to file a return but had tax withheld, a return must be filed to get a refund. The person who files the return must enter Deceased, the deceased taxpayer's name, and the date of death across the top of the return. If this information is not provided, it may delay the processing of the return.
They had to

NASA had planned to have a return trip to the moon for as early as 2019 (fifty year anniversary of Apollo 11). However with the project being cancelled in Presidents Obama's budget, all such plans have been delay for an postponed as well...
If you are expecting a rebate check while the IRS is processing an amendment to your tax return, it may delay the issuance of the rebate check. It is best to contact the IRS or check the status of your amended return to get more specific information on potential delays.
never came out big delay
